  • BSA 229 to Visit Texas
    September 30, 2009 (500K bytes)

After weeks of planning by the scout leaders, on Monday, September 15, Boy Scouts from Troop 229 and their parents gathered at the First United Methodist Church in Winamac to be briefed by Scout Master Steve McKinney, Scout Leader Dan Murphy, and others on their adventure to Texas in the summer of 2009 (July 23-August 2). Scouting is an adventure in itself, but this adventure will involve sleeping overnight aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lexington, sleeping overnight at the NASA Johnson Space Center and exploring life-size models of a space shuttle and the International Space Station, exploring the mile-long assembly line of the F-35 stealth fighter jet at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Headquarters, searching for diamonds at the Crater of Diamonds State Park, and a lot more. This is an adventure into some of the most advanced science and technology centers in the world splashed with a touch of history, bringing into focus many things they might only hear about otherwise.
